2nd November, St Petersburg
Visitors to St Petersburg three hundred years ago would have found themselves in a swap. Today it is covered with European style architecture, Italian mostly, with traditional Russian orthodox churches peaking their domes up above the roof tops; the buildings are sinking. It is the gate way into Russia from Estonia and Finland. The River Neva (pronounced Never) curls around St Petersburg, cutting it into many islands connected by bridges.
The night train from Moscow brought me to St Petersburg over night on Sunday night, and returned my overnight on Monday night. It has been a day of exploring the history as well as modern day St Petersburg.
I am feeling tired now and I am looking forward to putting my feet up on the train for Mongolia. I leave later today and will be on the train until the 8th November. On the map it's the long blue line from Moscow to Ulan Bator, which is most of the blue line.

Shurely "swamp"? Though "swap" sounds fun too.
