A sense of peace crept over me today and washed away yesterday's tears and anxieties. No more time for last minute preparations. Today, like a migratory bird, I headed south. The first train of many took me from Harrogate to Leeds. The second carried me on down to London.
Alain De Botton in his book 'The Art of Travel' writes
'If our lives are dominated by a search for happiness, then perhaps few activities reveal as much about the dynamics of this quest - in all its ardour and paradoxes - than do our travels'
De Botton is not refering to where we travel, but why and how we go there. I can answer the 'how', by train of course; as for the 'why' I am doing this I have thus far prided myself on doing it for the adventure and the experience of the journey. This answer seems insufficient for some who have questionned me, as if there should be more to it, as if I should be aiming to achieve something. But I am not aiming to achieve anything other than a journey into the unknown.
Just that.
