Made it to Moscow and it's snowing

I'm here. In Moscow. Tired, confused, but here. The language and culture is so different from anything I am used to.

Views from the train (an 18 hour journey) were beautiful this morning as the sun rose. Silver birches are everywhere and it is winter here so their white bark was laid bare to the golden morning sun. If you have seen Ewan MacGregor's The Long Way Round it is just like the Russian scenes in there - flat prairie land and a lot of silver birches. This country is so huge. I feel like an ant with a backpack striding out across it. The length of the journey from Warsaw to Moscow has made me look at the next leg, the Trans Siberian train journey across that incredible amount of land, in a new light.

It's day 1 in Russia and it takes me a while to settle into a new routine so I am feeling very out of sorts at the moment. I'll write more when my head isn't spinning too much.

  1. Hi Anna its only SJ here to let you know I am reading and enjoying your blog so far. Your writing style is very engaging, I felt completley transported from my couch to the train with you! Enjoy the trip. SJ x
